Background

Journey
Since completing first stage Usui Shiki Ryoho in 1985 with Marta Getty, Reiki has continued to take me to places within myself and within the world I had not imagined.

After organising and attending workshops for four years I was initiated as a Usui Shiki Ryoho Master in August of 1989.

My dedication, passion and trust in Reiki led me in 1995, to begin training and receive initiations from Dr Ranga Premaratna, lineage bearer in a Usui system of Reiki known as Reiki Jin Kei Do.

I embrace and embody Reiki Jin Kei Do as well as my lineage through Marta Getty, Phyllis Lei Furumoto and Hawayo Takata. While both lineages hold spiritual qualities and similarities in form and practice, Reiki Jin Kei Do is my spiritual discipline, teaching practice and personal practice.

When I review my journey, I recognise I have been blessed with a wide, balanced and yet diverse experience of Reiki. From my ongoing lay practice that includes my training and teaching of Reiki, to establishing a private/clinical practice, to pro-active roles within the national and global Reiki community, I have maintained a focus for ongoing personal and professional development and a desire to truly serve.

My active involvement in Reiki Australia since its inception has been a privilege. I have experienced the satisfaction of contributing to the organisation's many achievements and I feel particularly honoured to have participated in creating the foundation of a co-operative team building culture for Reiki Australia.

My participation in the forming and building of Reiki Australia, has provided me the opportunity to live my Reiki practice in a much broader context.

From the very beginning and underpinning all aspects is my daily Reiki practice, which includes self-treatment and the Reiki principles - Reiki is a way of life for me''''''..
Vision
I believe, as Reiki students, whether lay or professional, we have a role to play in facilitating healing within our wider, global community. In consciously taking responsibility for my life and having the intention to cultivate compassion, my choices, decisions and life direction are guided by my commitment to my Reiki practice.

The founder of the system of Reiki, Mikao Usui's memorial stone reads: 'The true purpose of the Reiki method is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities humans are endowed with since birth' This is as valid today as it was in the time of Usui.

I hold a vision for Reiki to earn its rightful place as a genuine, spiritual practice with a 'healing' application amongst peers in the wider healthcare context and the broader community. While the art of Reiki stands on its own as a healing practice, I also hold a vision for Reiki to be recognised as safe and to be used to support orthodox and complementary medicine.
